Monday evening Conan O’Brien took the helm of “The Tonight Show” replacing Jay Leno as the late night host opposite David Letterman.

O’Brien kicked off his show with Will Ferrell and  musical heavyweights Pearl Jam.

“Launching a show like this takes a lot of hard work, and one of the things that has sustained me over the past three months was knowing that at the end of our first show I’d get to watch a performance by one of the greatest rock bands in the world,” said O’Brien introducing Eddie Vedder and the gang.

The group performed a song called “Get Some” from its upcoming new album “Backspacer.”

While Pearl Jam has lost some luster over recent years, they sounded rejuvenated and like the classic Pearl Jam that we all fell in love with in the 90s.

Tonight O’Brien will have Green Day performing a song from its new album “21st Century Breakdown.” Vedder lends his patent rambling lyrics to the churning bass riff laid down by Jeff Ament. Mike McCready and Stone Gossard haven’t lost a step as they spiral squealing guitar solos.

Billboard reported the band has teamed up with Target for the release of the album this fall.
